Dr. Sylvia Irizarry is an expert in her field with impressive contrubutions as a Pediatrician. Co-Founder of Premier Suburban Medical Group, Dr. Irizarry started seeing patients at the Silver Cross and Woodridge locations back in January 2021, where she sees newborns. Prior to this venture, Dr. Irizarry cared for patients in the community through her work with the DuPage Medical Group – a medical organization devoted to developing and offering the latest technologies. The group provides access to a vast array of top resources, with dedicated expertise spread across some 50 medical fields and 100 locations.
With a successful career spanning over 2 decades, Dr. Irizarry made the decision to dedicate her efforts to the specialist area of Pediatrics, overseeing all aspects of healthcare in infants through to young adults. Her work typically crosses over physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and she always likes to view her patients holistically when assessing their individual needs. Her particular interests in Pediatrics include asthma, allergies, dermatology, development, infectious disease, pediatric emotional and mental health, and healthy mutually fulfilling parent-child relationships.
Dr. Irizarry began her academic endeavors at the New York University, School of Education where she received her Bachelor of Science in addition to her Master of Science in Nutrition. Following on from this she attended Columbia University where she attained her Certificate in Premedical Sciences. Dr. Irizarry graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1992 with her medical degree, gaining honors as part of the Martin Luther King Scholarship. In her next steps, she earned the opportunity to complete both her internship and residency under the highly regarded team at Loyola University Medical Center, where she specialized in Pediatrics.
Having served in her current capacity for over 10 years, Dr. Irizarry is highly regarded in the community and is a well-respected Pediatrician. Treating patients in a private practice setting, Dr. Irizarry is able to treat a number of conditions such as pain, fever, tonsillitis, ear infections and heart disease amongst many others, as well as providing particular expertise in the areas of asthma and allergies. In her daily role, Dr. Irizarry is highly regarded for her care and commitment to all of her patients.
In order to broaden her knowledge and professional status, Dr. Irizarry maintains active affiliations with the American Academy of Pediatrics, AAP, is Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds membership with the American Medical Association and Chicago Medical Association. She has also had the opportunity to work in a research capacity, having contributed to acclaimed works such as the ‘Effect of Infant Obesity on Lower Respiratory Infections’.
Reflecting on her career to date, Dr. Irizarry is thankful for the extensive experience she has gained as a pediatrician and for the opportunity to treat a wide range of patients and conditions. In Dr. Irizarry’s research, she also tracked down the incidence of COVID 19 in pediatric patients with pneumonia.
Dr. Irizarry believes firmly in preventative care, so when dealing with younger patients, parents, and family members, she always remains informative and supportive throughout any treatments or diagnosis. By cementing a strong relationship early on, she is able to work together with the patient and their family to make the best decisions when it comes to the most effective care plan.
In light of her dedication to the field, Dr. Irizarry was honored to have been awarded the Petierre Award in 2000, Top Doctor in 2019 & 2020. Top Pediatrician in 2019, and Continental Who’s Who in 2019. Looking to the future, the esteemed doctor hopes to continue serving as many patients in the community as she possibly can, whilst also expanding her range of skills and expertise.
In her time outside of work, Dr. Irizarry enjoys dancing and cooking.
